Baby Bags

First Chance for Children provides low income mothers who deliver at the two Columbia hospitals with a canvas Baby Bag that contains books to read to her new baby, baby safety items, a sleeper, and a notebook called “All About Baby” that tells her about local resources for new mothers and their babies.

Linking Moms to Community Resources
The staff member who delivers each Baby Bag also helps mothers enroll in community programs, like WIC, Parents as Teachers, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and the Daniel Boone Regional Library, including its Play-as-Learning Bags. Mothers are also encouraged to enroll in our Home Visit and Safe CRIBS programs. Those programs are funded by the Missouri Department of Social Services, the Phelps County Community Partnership, and the Children’s Trust Fund.
