Babies are at greatest risk of child abuse and death because of sleep issues during their first year of life. First Chance for Children’s Safe Crib program provides a safe crib and the information qualifying family needs to safely put their child to bed and deal with sleep related issues.
The Safe CRIBS program provides safe cribs for at-risk families who lack safe sleeping accommodations for their baby. Cribs are delivered along with a Baby Bag that includes:
- Books to read to the baby
- Baby safety kit
- Health kit
- Bath water thermometer
- Pamphlets with information about local resources for new mothers and their babies
The initial delivery visit is followed by five additional home visits that focus on child abuse and neglect prevention and child development.
This program is funded by the Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS), The Community Partnership of Phelps County, the Children’s Trust Fund, and private donations.
To participate a family must meet income guidelines. For additional information contact First Chance for Children or your local school district about service areas.
